When you and your teammates die, except for the one âcontinueâ you are equipped with, the race ends. In terms of gameplay, Arcadegeddon has more in common with Risk of Rain 2 than with the asymmetric multiplayer horror of its previous versions, as players face hordes of enemies with the threat of permanent death following them every turn. Other biomes are planned according to IllFonic’s roadmap, but what’s currently here offers a fair amount of visual variety, although there is a noticeable lack of different enemy types between stages. Each stage takes place in one of three biomes, with the futuristic nerve center, lush and cavernous mystical islands, and post-apocalyptic suites each containing their own randomly generated levels. Away from the gory and bloody battles of Predator and Friday the 13th, Arcadegeddon takes place in a vibrant, alien yet familiar world populated by Osmosis Jones-like characters.

Without the limitations of a film license to work, IllFonic has created something unlike anything the studio has developed before. And maybe that’s because there are a variety of details and improvements to be made if this Early Access title is to thrive. Perhaps that’s because Arcadegeddon is the first IllFonic game in nearly a decade that hasn’t seen the studio use an existing IP address, as they’re blown away with their first self-published project made up entirely of their own.
